Lake of Menteith (11/06/10) The sixth outing of the season was held at the Lake of Menteith on the 11th of June. The weather was wet and windy with the wind mainly coming from the west. This made the fishing quite difficult with very few fish seen on the surface. The total number of fish caught was 13 for a total weight of24lb 4oz. The most popular drifts being at the road shore, hotel bay and the burn mouth, with the most successful flies being orange blobs, boobies and polar bears. The winner of the outing was D Malcolm with 5 fish for 8lb 12oz, Stewart Graham was second with 3 fish weighing 5lb 12oz and D Carr and Martin McManamon were third equal with 2 fish each weighing 3lb 12oz.
Lintrathen Reservoir (08/07/10) The seventh outing of the year was held at Lintrathen Reservoir on the 8th of July. Once again the weather gods where against us with a strong south westerly wind, this forced most of the anglers to fish the south shore. However because the south shore was sheltered the weather did not have a detrimental effect on the fishing, with 30 fish being caught for a total weight of 52lb. The most successful flies being Black hares lugs, blobs and booby nymphs, with the most popular lines being slow intermediates, midge tips and floaters. The winner of the outing was M McManamon with 5 fish weighing 8lb 1oz, closely followed by Andy Bairstow with C Morrison coming third.
Glensherrup Reservoir The eighth outing of the season was held at Glensherrup Reservoir. The weather was changeable with the wind changing direction continuously and as the sun went down the temperature dropped significantly. This made the fishing difficult with just 11 fish being caught for a total weight of 22lb 8oz. The winner of the outing was Sandy Stirton with 3 fish for a total weight of5lb 8oz, second was Stewart Graham with 2 fish for 4lb 12oz and third was D Malcolm with 1 fish for 2lb 4oz. As this is our most expensive venue to fish the returns where very disappointing?
The third outing of the season was held at Butterstone Loch on the 19th of May. The weather conditions was reasonable, to start with there was a southerly breeze and bright sunshine, this changed to a easterly breeze later on and as the sun went down behind the hills the temperature dropped significantly. The total catch was 22 fish weighing 44lb 12oz for 9 anglers. The fish that were caught came to various types of flies, mainly lures and blobs, with the most popular lines were slow sinkers and intermediates. The winner of the outing was Stewart Graham with 6 fish for 12lb 1oz, second was C Morrison with 5 fish for 9lb 12oz and D Malcolm was third with 4 fish for 7lb 10oz.
The fourth outing of the season was at the Lake of Menteith on the 28th of May. At the start of the outing there was a strong westerly wind this died away as the night wore on so at the end of the night it was a flat calm. The Lake fished reasonably well with 17 fish weighing 35lb 2oz for 6 anglers. The most productive areas were International bay and at the burn mouth at the cages, most of the fish where caught on black polar bears, orange blobs and various nymphs. The winner of the outing was Stewart Graham (again) with 5 fish for 13lb, second was M McManamon with 4 fish for 8lb 8oz and third was D Carr with 4 fish for 7lb 6oz, the most popular lines were floaters and midge tips.
The fifth outing of the season was held at Butterstone Loch on the 3rd of June. The weather was good with a light variable breeze, and an overcast sky. This made for good fishing all night, with fish being caught from the start of the outing to the end. This was by far our best outing of the season with 37 fish being caught for a total weight of 89lb for 8 anglers. The most popular area being from the harbour down to the gap at cottage bay, the most popular flies being lure, blobs, nymphs and buzzers with floating and midge tip lines being the favourites. The winner of the outing was J Hodge with 6 fish weighing 15lb 6oz, A Bairstow was second with 6 fish for14lb 8oz and Alan Edwards was third with 5 fish for 12lb 9oz.
Butterstone Loch The second outing of the season was held at Butterstone Loch on the 5th of May. Conditions ranged from a slight south easterly wind to a flat calm. These conditions should of provided good fishing, unfortunately the fish did not agree, although there was plenty of fish showing on the surface they where very hard to tempt. The fish that where caught came mainly from the shelf, the three trees and the gap. The fish that where caught game to various types of flies, mainly lures nymphs and buzzers. The most popular lines where slow sinkers, intermediates, and midge tips, the total number of fish caught was 15 weighting 32lb 5oz. The winner of the outing was Stewart Graham with 5 fish for 10lb 6oz, L Jeffery was second with 3 fish for 6lb 4oz and A Bairstow third with 2 fish for 4lb 6oz.
Rescobie Loch The Fly fishing section held our first outing of the season at Rescobie Loch on Sunday the 18th of April. The weather in the morning was cold, wet and windy which made the fishing very difficult with only a few fish being caught, however the weather did improve in the afternoon which made the fishing a lot easier. With the breeze dying away and the sun coming out the trout started to move on the surface feeding on buzzers which where emerging all over the loch. Although the we only caught 15 fish (for 10 anglers) the total weight was 59lb making the average weight per fish nearly 4lb. The winner of the outing was Stewart Graham with 3 fish for 17lb 12oz his biggest being a rainbow trout weighing 8lb 8oz, Alan Edwards came second with 2 fish for 11lb 10oz his biggest being a brown trout weighing 8lb, Dave Carr came third with 3 fish for 9lb 12oz.
