DARNHALL 7 - 0 C.S.S.A. (20.7.10)
A bad night at Darnhall. Our 3 rinks were all well beaten on what vaguely resembled a bowling green. Our title hopes still lie in our own hands. We still have a 9 point lead with North End having 2 matches to play before we play our last game against Letham on Thursday 5th August.
In League competitions, we still have interest in all 3 competitions. Iain Fisher and Eddie Sailor have rinks in the quarter finals of the Dempster Trophy. Iain Fisher & Chic Layland are in the semi finals of the Murray Pairs where they could meet Annette and David McGarvie if they win ther quarter final. David McGarvie is in the semi finals of the Dow Trophy.

NORTH END 2 - 5 C.S.S.C. (13.7.10)
This was a big result for us against our closest contenders for the Corporation League title. This take us 9 points ahead with 2 game to play against Darnhall & Letham.
We had 2 winning rinks, Ally Deuchars, Brian McHale, Carol Munro & Mike McEwan played a strong 2nd half to win by 17 - 8. Likewise, Brian Simpson, Chic Layland, Charlie Stewart & John Griffin pulled away in the 2nd half of their game to win 18 -10. Iain Fisher, Willie Sinclair, John Skipworth & Eddie Sailor had a bad night at the office, never really getting into their game, losing by 20 - 5. They did play their part in clinching the extra point. With overall shots level, they picked up 2 shots at the last end to give us the extra point.
Next Tuesday at Darnhall.

C.S.S.A 7 - 0 JEANFIELD (29.6.10)
With North End only taking 5 points at Darnhall, we had a chance to extend our lead at the top of the Corporation League. This, we duly did against an under strength Jeanfield team.
Chic Layland, Hugh Fraser, Eddie Sailor & Iain Fisher recorded a 19 - 7 victory with the rink of Brian McHale, Charlie Stewart, Brian Simpson & Ally Deuchars winning by the same scoreline. John Skipworth, Mike McEwan, Tug Wilson & David McGarvie won a high scoring match 21 - 14 to give us the full points.  With 3 games to go against nearest challengers North End, Darnhall & Letham, we hold a 6 point lead. No game next week with North End at the North Inch on 13th July.

ST. JOHNSTONE 2 - 5 C.S.S.A (22.6.10)
This was a very good 5 points against extremely difficult opponents at the North Inch. These 5 points keeps us 4 points ahead of North End at the top of the Corporation League table with 4 matches to play.
David McGarvie's rink comprising of Carol Munro, Hugh Fraser & Colin McKenzie got off to a flyer, taking a 14 - 0 lead after 5 ends and eventually eased to a 24 - 5 victory. Iain Fisher, along with Brian McHale, Annette McGarvie & Eddie Sailor also had a big winning margin of 25 - 7. Unluckily, Ally Deuchars, Brian Simpson, John Griffin & John Skipworth lost 2 shots at the last end to lose 12 - 11.
Next Tuesday (29th) at the South Inch against Jeanfield.

C.S.S.A. 7 - 0 EX-SERVICE (8.6.10)
We reached the halfway stage in our Corporation League campaign with full points over the Exy team. Three of the Exy team decided not to play in the rain (puir wee lambs..) and they fielded only 2 rinks. Sir Mike McEwan, John Griffin, Ally Deuchars & Iain Fisher were level at 8 - 8 with 6 ends to play but pulled away to win 21 -8. Chic Layland, Carol Munro, Brian Simpson & David McGarvie led all the way and finished 19 - 9 winners.
We are now on 33 points out of a possible 42 and are in a challenging position with 5 tough games to play.
Next Tuesday (15th) is the Robertson Triples.

CENTRAL 0 - 7 C.S.S.A. (3.6.10)
After a couple of bad results, we got back on track with full points at the North Inch. Tug Wilson skipped his rink of John & Fraser Munro and Colin McKenzie to a 16 - 15 win. Iain Fisher had a comfortable 16 - 8 win with his rink of Chic Layland, Hugh Fraser & Eddie Sailor. The rink of Willie Sinclair, John Skipworth, Mike McEwan & David McGarvie actually lost 14 - 13, but as they played against a triple, the Central team lost a quarter of their shots for the Civil service team to win 13 - 10.5.
This win gives us 26 points out of a possible 35 so far. Next Tuesday is a home match against the Ex-Service

Scottish Civil Service v. English Civil Service
Five of our players helped the Scottish Civil Service regain the Stuart Borthwick Trophy at a drizzly Maxwelltown B.C. in Dumfries.
Chic Layland And Iain Fisher played in a rink that lost narrowly by 1 shot. Sir Mike McEwan played in a rink that also lost by 1 shot and David McGarvie & Ally Deuchars' rink lost by 5 shots. Scotland only won 2 of the 6 rinks, but the 2 rinks that won, won by very big margins to help Scotland win by 13 shots overall.

Hawthorn Trophy
This Sunday sees the East of Scotland Civil Service bowlers take on their West of Scotland counterparts at Dumbarton B.C. Iain Fisher takes on Scottish champion Michael Keenan in the Singles. Colin McKenzie joins up with George Churchill of Rosyth in the Pairs. Chic Layland teams up with Bob Leslie of Rosyth and Sir Archie McCormack of Edinburgh in the Triples. An all-Perth rink of John Munro, Sir Mike McEwan, Tug Wilson and Brian Simpson takes on a strong West team in the Fours.

BROTHERHOOD TROPHY (25.5.10)
We have traditionally done well in this competition, winning it on a couple of occasions in recent years. However, we didn't pick up on last weeks bad result with all 3 rinks losing against Letham at the North Inch, Sports Club at Letham and Jeanfield at the South Inch.

DEWARS 7 - 0 C.S.S.A. (18.5.10
)
This was an extremely bad result aginst a team we would normally expect to beat. None of our rinks really got going, letting the home team bulid up big leads before pegging them back. Disappointing night considering the good results in our first 3 matches.

Scottish Civil Service V. English Civil Service
Five of our members will represent Scotland this weekend in our match against our Englash counterparts at Maxwelltown B.C. in Dumfries. Ally Deuchars and Iain Fisher will skips rinks with Chic Layland, Sir Mike McEwan and David McGarvie also participating. Scotland have a good record in recent years and hope to keep that up on Saturday.

P.C.S.C. 0 - 7 C.S.S.A
We picked up full points for the second week running, writes our Bowls correspondent David McGarvie, in our latest Corporation League match against the Sports Club.  Iain Fisher and his rink of Chic Layland, Charlie Stewart & Brian simpson got off to a flyer, leading 13 - 1 at halfway, eventually winning 19 - 6. Ally Deuchars, John Munro, John Skipworth & Eddie Sailor trailed by 8 - 4 after 7 ends but put in a strong 2nd half to win 18 - 9. David McGarvie skipped his rink of Willie Sinclair, Brian McHale & Mike McEwan to an 18 - 15 win to give us full points.
Next Tuesday (11th May) at the South Inch against Muirend.

C.S.S.A. 7 - 0 MONCRIEFFE
We got our Perth Corporation League campaign off to the best possible start, writes our Bowls correspondent David McGarvie, with full points over Moncrieffe. After struggling for most of last season to field a team, we welcomed back 3 players (Ally Deuchars, John Skipworth & Brian Simpson) who didn't play for varying reasons. We had 18 players to pick from (we need 12 for a League game), which is extremely encouraging.  Ally Deuchars teamed up with David McGarvie, Brian McHale & John Griffin to win 13-12 in a very tight game which swung back and fore all game. Iain Fisher skipped his rink of Chic Layland, John Skipworth and Sir Mike McEwan to a comfortable 17-7 win. Tug Wilson, Brian Simpson, Willie Sinclair & Hugh Fraser struggled in the early stages of their game, trailing 12-2 with 5 ends to play, but a grandstand finish, scoring 12 shots in 4 ends, helped them to a 14-13 victory.
The draws for the Dow Trophy, Murray Pairs & Dempster are now on display on the South Inch noticeboard. We have Willie Sinclair & Ally Deuchars in the Dow, 5 pairs in the Murray Pairs & 3 rinks in the Dempster Trophy.
Next Tuesday 4th, May against P.C.S.C. at 6.45 p.m. for 7 p.m. at the South Inch. Everybody welcome to come along and cheer us on.
